Underlayer
With these buttons the various underlayer types can be switched on or off.
GiS-fonts generally have a running line along the center line in every letter. In GiS and PF-Fonts you can only select contour or zigzag-underlayer, center-line underlay is available in TrueType fonts exclusively.
Underlayer-type center line creates a step stitch line in the center of the character’s contour. It is especially suitable for small letters. Under the parameter button
you can define a swing, for a slight zigzag effect of the center line.
The underlayer type contour creates a running line along the contour of the character and ensures a firm fringe. The distance of the underlayers from the fringe of the character is always calculated so that the underlayer is covered completely. In order to ensure this with narrow curves the steplength of the underlayer is reduced. So the steplength can vary between the value which is adjusted in the Parameter
and this value minus the adjusted percentage value. If you have a steplength of 4.0 for example and a percent number of 25%, the stitches will vary between a length of 4.0 and 3.0 (4.0 - 1.0) millimeter.
The underlayer type zigzag creates a double, oblique zigzag-stitch as an underlayer, the distance of which can be set under the button parameter
. with this type of underlayer a very high-quality, three-dimensional embroidery is created. It is only useful for relatively large monograms, whereas for small characters with rather short covering stitches it could result in unpleasant effects.
In this type center line and zigzag- underlayer are combined.
